Purora Alltagshelden

In conversation with Purora everyday heroine Dr. Susanne Steindl

Im Gespräch mit Purora Alltagsheldin Dr. Susanne Steindl

Today we would like to introduce you to our next Purora everyday heroine, Dr. Susanne Steindl. She is a general practitioner in Vienna and has been working in the field of nutrition, vital substances and orthomolecular medicine for years. We visited her in her practice and talked about healthy nutrition, exercise and health and what role Purora plays for her.

Purora: What does healthy eating mean to you?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: Healthy nutrition is the most important thing for me. In my practice, too, no patient leaves the door without me taking a detailed medical history, asking when they eat, what they eat and how much they eat. This gives me an idea of how people eat and what they offer their bodies and cells. Hippocrates said, "Let food be medicine and medicine be food," and we should do the same. That should really be a motto for us to avoid illnesses before they even start, in the spirit of prevention. In this way, many diseases of civilization such as diabetes, high blood fat levels or high blood pressure could be avoided. Nutrition does not start with losing weight. We should eat healthily to support our bodies and thus our immune systems. Before I give supplements, I always check whether the diet is appropriate and whether people are sufficiently physically active. Only then do I give the supplements, the micronutrients, which I provide to swallow or as infusions. Because if your diet is not right and your gut is not working properly, even the best supplements won't help. That's why your first focus should always be on your diet.

Purora: What role does Purora play?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: Purora plays a very important role, because there are always patients who come to me and say that they don't have time to cook, that they don't like cooking, or that it is generally difficult to eat healthily. This is where Purora is setting a great example with its ready-to-mix premium meals. This means you can eat healthily in the office or in everyday life without spending half an hour in the kitchen. In no time at all, you have a good meal with valuable nutrients and vital substances, you are full and, so to speak, you no longer have an excuse not to eat healthily.

Purora: What does health mean to you?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: Health is the most important thing. We should all place more value on prevention than only acting when we are sick or already have symptoms. And that is why, when I think about health, it is always about prevention. What can I do, what can I do for my body to stay healthy? The keyword longevity - healthy ageing is important. What do my cells need to stay healthy and age healthily? And the first thing is always nutrition. Everyone should ask themselves what they can do for their body that is positive, through nutrition, through what they give their body as food.

Purora: Do you also include exercise in your health?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: Absolutely! When it comes to motivating patients to change their lifestyle, it's no longer just about diet. It's also about exercise, because exercise is extremely important for living a healthy lifestyle. Depending on the patient, depending on their needs, this could be endurance training, perhaps a walk in the woods or individually designed strength training. Even though it's often difficult to find the time, I also try to do my hobbies regularly, yoga, running, cycling - so a lot of endurance training. But strength training is also important to me when it comes to optimizing or improving my lifestyle.

Purora: Which Purora product should you not be without?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: That's a difficult question. I particularly like the chocolate nut maca porridge, for example. Mainly because it contains maca as a superfood. Maca is a root from South America and has an incredible amount of amino acids and trace elements. Amino acids are particularly important. It also contains cashews, which provide an important amino acid - tryptophan - which is very important for building up serotonin, our happiness hormone. It also contains cocoa and bananas as magnesium and potassium suppliers. Linseed and hemp seeds are an important source of omega-3. This porridge is simply a power snack or power breakfast that can be mixed warm and is therefore very good for the entire organism.

Purora: As we all know, a healthy, balanced diet has an enormous, yet often underestimated, impact on general health. In your opinion, which active ingredients have the greatest impact?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: When it comes to nutrition in general, we talk about macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are fats, carbohydrates and proteins, micronutrients are vitamins, trace elements and minerals. The right supply of these is what ultimately makes a healthy diet. It is important that you have enough of these micronutrients and this is also something that is particularly important when it comes to the composition of Purora meals. The superfoods have the greatest impact for me because they are rich in micronutrients, i.e. vitamins and trace elements. As already mentioned, maca is rich in amino acids, selenium, magnesium, etc. Medicinal mushrooms such as Hericium or Reishi are also anti-inflammatory and good for our immune system. Just like the acerola cherry, which is contained in many Purora products. The acerola cherry is a vitamin C bomb that strengthens our immune system from the inside and is said to make us more efficient and fitter.

Purora: If you eat a balanced diet, would you say that organic food contains everything a healthy body needs?

Dr. Susanne Steindl: In principle, yes. There is definitely a lot more in organic food than in non-organic food. Of course, it always depends on how much I eat and how many of the nutrients my body can absorb. In some situations, for example when I am ill or in very stressful phases, it may be necessary to take additional supplements. But in principle, a diet with organic food is what we should give our body and is what contains the most nutrients.
