Elixirs - tinctures

Since time immemorial, plants and herbs have been an important part of nutrition in all cultures.

In particular, herbs were and are used in various forms of preparation for medicinal purposes and to maintain health. Numerous traditions and stories about herbal recipes and the secrets of plants bear witness to the fascination that herbs have exercised on people at all times. Aristotle already had around 384 BC. BC prepared elixirs from plants and Hildegard von Bingen is also known for her medicinal tinctures. Tinctures are liquid extracts from herbs or herbal mixtures. The herbs, in fresh or dried form, are soaked in a liquid and pressed after a few weeks or months in order to obtain the valuable ingredients in a concentrated form.

For example, ethanol-water mixtures, glycerin or vinegar are used as extraction agents.

In this way, a long-lasting, rich herbal essence can be produced in which the desired active ingredients such as flavonoids, bitter substances, alkaloids, essential oils and glycosides are extracted in concentrated form. These natural plant active ingredients, which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial properties, among other things, can cause numerous positive reactions in the human organism. Herbal elixirs that give vitality, energy and joie de vivre, strengthen digestion, relax, relieve stress, improve sleep and support the immune system are particularly popular.
